Flight Office and Kitchen
January 2008
Adelaide Biplanes have been at Aldinga Airfield since July 2005. We started in the side of the hangar in the old 70's style Flight Office, our aircraft are all high quality and so we have improved the inside of the hangar as well to reflect our branding. A lot of the work has been done with the help of our students, their parents, Instructors and Pilots. For example, the Dad of one of our students is a Carpenter/Joiner and he has made our designs and then we paint, rub down, wax or finish as required. The internal corrugated walls are recycled from gardens in Willunga, rubbed down with wire scourers and painted. The Baltic Pine floor is from another student's demolished house, laid down by the Instructors, ( with many expletives), rubbed down and oiled by Gaylene and two Dads. Students have helped us and are now sharing in the end results! Their ages range from 11 years old through to our oldest student who is 76. They are an inspiring lot!
We have renovated our current offices, we didn't mean to do this much, but whatever we tackle, we only want to do it to the best of our ability. So, here we are a few months later, very tired, but oh so pleased with the help, support and the look of amazement from locals as they come in the door. Yes, well worth the effort!
We have awesome aerial photography. Our Photographer John Drury is a professional from Adelaide, with whom we have developed a close working relationship. So, huge canvasses of John's work portraying our biplanes flying over the local vineyards and stunning coastline and hills.are going up on the walls imminently.
The Kitchen started for students, their families, the crew and tourists for them to enjoy a really awesome cappuccino. It has grown to include visiting pilots (the $100 burger!), other airfield visitors, tourists and locals, and we love to see families visiting just like they used to.... to look at aeroplanes up close, watch students of all ages learning, enjoying the challenge, overcoming hurdles and achieving their personal goals without actually having to have a lesson or buying a scenic flight or coffee....all are welcome.....in this way.....we improve safety and discipline by involving everyone!
We bake everything in our kitchen....just like 'Mum' used to do in her 1940's kitchen....very simple....things like:
