Cirrus SR22
Cirrus SR22
VH-JRL
Owners Ron and Jan Logan decided to place their fantastic aircraft JRL with us here at Aldinga. What an opportunity to experience full glass cockpit technology coupled with serious performance. The SR22 is a four seat high performance fixed gear composite construction aeroplane, sleek and fast with a great lifting ability, it is probably the ultimate single engine touring aeroplane.
A 170 knot cruise is easily achievable, coupled with stall speeds around 60 knots make this a very flexible aircraft. It can fit into the circuit pattern without difficulty, and then climb high and go fast to destination in a relaxed and comfortable fashion with the fully integrated autopilot and flight director system making the pilot's workload that bit easier. The ergonomically designed cockpit with side column controller is a joy to use and feels natural right from the start. Two axis electric trim with an airline style 'coolie hat', and a rudder/aileron interconnect means that balanced turns are straightforward. Full airline style flat glass displays give a level of information that is unsurpassed in any of the more traditional aeroplanes. Night VFR becomes much more of a realistic option when you have this level of equipment.
If the worst were ever to happen and maybe the engine stopped at night or over water ????? Well with the Cirrus you have not run out of options, you simply slow the aircraft down and take a firm grip on what is known as the "CAPS" handle and pull firmly......The fully certified ballistic parachute system will bring both aircraft and occupants safely to terra firma. Seats designed to absorb up to 26 G's, limiting the possibilities of personal injury. That has to be quite a comfort. This is one, very safe aircraft.
How do you convert to the Cirrus? Well it is a leap in technology that's for sure, so needs to be taken seriously. Prior study of the comprehensive Flight Manual will certainly be required. The avionics are full of little surprises and incredibly clever. When you are ready to fly, then we have a 5 hour conversion program to get you qualified, and are planning to offer (optional) part of that training at night in order to broaden your horizons still further.
Once qualified we have negotiated with the insurers EITHER a 5 hour in 90 day currency, OR a simple check ride with an ABP Instructor to get you back up to speed again. Depending on experience this could be as little as a circuit or two, or perhaps a little more to ensure we are all safe .
The Cirrus is available for Charter and General Aviation training.
